Abel Hernandez, AIA, NCARB

Abel Hernandez, AIA, is a Principal and an Owner of JDMA Architects.  He joined the firm in 2017 bringing with him over 20 years of experience in the field of architecture and design; successfully managing projects of varying complexity and scale.  Additionally, he is involved in the firm's business development, marketing, client relations, and project and studio leadership.  He is a native of Lubbock and a graduate of Texas Tech University where he received his degree in architecture and is currently licensed in Texas and New Mexico.

Abel finds that the best ideas grow from strong relationships between the client and all team members.  Throughout projects, he is involved in all phases of the process, from programming and construction documentation, to contract administration and project management; including team and client leadership.  Abel’s collaborative attitude, design approach, and technical expertise have enabled him to complete work on diverse project types.  His portfolio of work includes K-12 schools, higher education, healthcare, multi-family, and commercial offices.

Abel is an active member of professional and community boards.  He previously served on the City of Lubbock's Planning and Zoning Commission and was past Chair of the Urban Design and Historic Preservation Board and a former member of the Building Board of Appeals and The Rotary Club of Lubbock.

 

Two dogs and cats, and working on home projects keep Abel and his wife Cynthia busy at home.  Outside of the office, Abel enjoys traveling with his wife, visiting their two grown daughters, good food and wine, and spending time with family and friends.
