Joe D. McKay, AIA Emeritus Member, NCARB

Founder | Architect of Counsel

Bachelor of Architecture, University of Illinois at Urbana - Champaign

Joe McKay, AIA, is JDMA Architects founder.  Since establishing the firm in 1980, he has watched JDMA grow into a multi-faceted firm providing comprehensive architectural design services in Lubbock and the surrounding West Texas region.

Originally from Amarillo, Texas, Joe earned his Bachelor of Architecture degree from the University of Illinois at Urbana – Champaign in 1961.  After graduation, Joe relocated his residence to Lubbock, Texas and worked in the city’s largest architecture firm for over 13 years where he was an associate and partner before opening his own practice in 1980.  For over 28 years, Joe gradually grew JDMA by focusing on customer service and expanding the firm’s services to include interior design, consulting, and master planning.  In 2014, the firm transitioned from the original founder and Joe remained as Principal Architect.  Today he holds an Emeritus Status from the AIA and continues advising the firm as Architect of Counsel.

Now retired from the profession, he holds Emeritus status and continues advising the firm as Architect of Counsel.  Joe enjoys sharing his knowledge of architecture by being an active member of professional and community boards.  He was Chair of the Zoning Board of Adjustments Commission for the City of Lubbock and continues to serve on many other boards and commissions at various levels.  He resides in Lubbock with his wife and enjoys playing tennis, golf, and spending time with his grandchildren.
